Book Chat: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
Check out The Great Alone
A vast journey through the life of a dysfunctional and captivating family. Epic in its scope, Kristin Hannah takes the reader through the wild and unpredictable land of Alaska in the 1970s and the equally wild and unpredictable journey of a man irreparably wounded by the Vietnam war. A story of struggle, a story of hate, and a story of the enduring spirit of a woman’s love.
In some ways, it reminds me of my novel Beneath the Silence. It also has characters who make some really poor choices, all in an effort to make the right ones. It explores the way secrets can tear a family apart, and the lengths we go to in an effort to survive. Both books also highlight the sometimes misguided but always present strength of a mother’s love.
